Rockport, Texas
Rockport Beach Park
The only Blue Wave–certified beach in Texas. Calm, protected Aransas Bay water, a dedicated bird sanctuary, and two nesting islands — all within walking distance of downtown Rockport.
Texas's Blue Wave Beach
Rockport Beach Park is unlike any other beach on the Texas coast. Sheltered inside Aransas Bay rather than open Gulf, the water is calm, clear, and warm — perfect for families with young children, kayakers, and stand-up paddleboarders.
The park earned its Blue Wave certification — an international environmental award granted by the Clean Beaches Coalition — recognizing exceptional water quality, clean facilities, and environmental stewardship. It's the only beach in Texas with the designation.
The park is operated by the Aransas County Navigation District (ACND) and has been a community gathering place for generations. The 1.2-mile beach is lined with live oak groves, picnic pavilions, and a fishing pier.

Bird Sanctuary & Nesting Islands
Within the park boundary, two small protected islands serve as critical nesting habitat for colonial waterbirds. In spring and summer, the islands host Black Skimmers, Laughing Gulls, Royal Terns, and various herons and egrets.
A dedicated bird sanctuary area buffers the nesting islands from foot traffic. The combination of bay shoreline, shallow flats, and sanctuary creates exceptional shorebird habitat year-round.
At dawn and dusk, the light over Aransas Bay produces stunning photography conditions — pelicans gliding past the pier, skimmers working the shoreline, and wading birds stalking the shallows.
🦅 Birders' Tip
Visit at low tide when the shallow flats at the north end of the park draw Reddish Egrets, Willets, and migrating sandpipers. Early morning light is ideal for photography.
