The Big Tree
A scenic heritage stop centered on one of the most famous live oaks in Texas, with birding value in the surrounding trees and edges.
The Big Tree is best known as a landmark, but the mature live oaks and nearby wooded edges can also be worth checking for migrants and resident songbirds. It makes an ideal companion stop with Goose Island State Park, adding a bit of shade and woodland character to a route otherwise dominated by bayfront habitat. For tour guests, it also adds a memorable sense of place and local history.
